Hey Kids,
Due to popular demand, the fans of MLWM want to see their stars again. The MLWM Fall 2005 Season is in the works and I know people want to play. The only way to determine for sure if there's enough people for the season is to hold a couple exhibition games for players and fans, and see who shows up.
This Sunday, Aug. 28, the Wiffleboard is sponsoring an exhibition game and all are invited to play. For all you regulars, this is a good opportunity to keep your skills sharp. For you newcomers, come check us out and bring your friends. Game time is at 4:30.
As an added bonus, MLWM superstar "Hot Sauce" George Cometa and a few others will be hosting a FREE batting and pitching clinic for all you youngsters at 4:00pm at Meadowside before the Game. Strengthen your skills, or learn how to play with the professionals. As always, this gives you a chance to meet and greet the MLWM Superstars.
That's it for now, see you on the field. Tell your friends.
Sincerely,
George
VP of Operations
MLWM Wiffleboard
203-435-1543
PS: Sign up in the comment section if you can play, or attend the clinic, or (hopefully) both!

On A Rainy Sunday, Thems Crazy Kids Played Wiffleball

The 2005 MLWM Regular Season ended on a wet Playoffs Sunday as the Sumcoopadigans won the championship. (Above are the champs with the coveted MLWM championship trophy)
In the First Round of the Playoffs, the Sumcoopadigans defeated the Keelewredons while the Carljoickustins defeated the Georegarceadans.
The Title Game Pitted the Sumcoopadigans against the Carljoickustins in a match for the ages. It was as fierce as a fight between ninjas and pirates or snakes and mongeeseseses.
Rumors has it that DVDs of the playoffs will be released soon with 5 individual Wiffleboard members' commentary, deleted scenes, 3 alternate endings (including the one where I win the MVP and the one where Remetta shows up in a cameo!!!), a NC-17 director's cut of the game, behind-the-scene making of the game, and a certificate redeemable for a ticket for the 2006 MLWM playoff game.
I couldn't get that many pictures cuz I was umping, playing, setting the game up, and/or trying to have a private moment to myself on the Bunny Trails without some random people walking in on me the majority of the time, but here are some jpeg goodness.
Despite the constant threat of lightning, there were no casuatlties. All in all, fun was had by all.

Playoffs
8/10: The 2005 regular season has concluded. Here's a look back (insert 80s style montage sequence here):
There was a no-hitter. There was a fight for the ages. We are a bunch of racists. Keeler got shot, but we didn't have a picture of that so we hired a child actor to reenact the event by shooting him. Lew won the all-star game. One of us got abducted by aliens. We sold our donkey. We heckled Ryan Minor at the Bluefish game.
All in all, a good summer of plastic action.
But the summer of fun is over. On Sunday August 14th, four (wo)men will be crowned the 2005 MLWM World Champions. Four people will get a chance to hoist the coveted MLWM Championship Trophy on their collective shoulders while openingly mocking the losers.
A brief list of people that have never won the MLWM Championship:
- Aquaman
- Prince William
- The Hamburgular
- Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton
- Abe Vigoda
- "G Dog" Doggett
- Dan Marino
On Sunday, four people will do what these people can never hope to accomplish.
As most of you know by now, the playoff teams are calculated by rankings of stats compiled during the regular season. As of print time, there are 14 qualifiers for the automatic bid. Two wild card at-large bids will also be awarded to complete the field of sixteen. Four teams will be formed and be put to a fight-to-the-death style playoffs until one team survives. Participants of the playoffs must bring one virgin wiffleball as admission in the event.
It is my belief that the tournament will be taped; and perhaps broadcasted eventually on public access cable at 2:30 in the morning in the far, distant future...in Mexico and/or Canada. So, do your hair, get the manicure, and spend for that colonics session. I know I'll be spending a good 90 minutes on my makeup alone. Also, the league shirts will be given out at the day of the playoffs. It is a Yankee-esque white on royal blue, so feel free to color-coordinate based on that information.
All are welcomed to watch the games. In fact, people who fail to qualify for a playoff spot can still be in the playoffs if a playoff contestant does not show.
I will be bringing a tray of food, and perhaps some drinks. If anyone wants to bake a cake, roast a phesant, or churn out some hummus, be my guest. It should be a hoot and a half.
And on Wednesday, the Wiffleboard will decide the teams and the regular season award winners. "Hot Sauce" Cometa will be live via satellite from somewhere in Canada videoconferencing with the rest of the board at the central headquarter. Use the comments to voice your opinions regarding playoffs teams composition and award winners. We'll take them into consideration.
ps: I'm not saying I can be bribed. Just that, I think it'd take more than just a wheel of cheese to buy my vote for a certain somebody's Gold Glove Award.
pps: Everyone pay the League Mom for the shirts as soon as you can. You don't want to get Mom mad.

Bracketology

The playoffs bracket is posted in the 2005 stats page. It's just the same as posted in the email, just in diagram form. In a couple days, I'm gonna take down the "Rankings", "HR Race", and "Remetta Award" tabs. Just to unclutter things as I am dealing with finite storage. And their main purpose were to assist in the awards judging, which is over right now.
If the teams wanna get together and give me a pitching probable for their first game, I can throw that up there. Also, if you want to elect a "manager", that can go up as well.
Game is at 4pm Sunday, but for people that has setup duty (tables, field, equipment, camera, etc) or just want some on field practice, there'll probably be people at there starting at 3pm.

Diamond Notes
- With whispers of the over $300 worth of uniform money being embezzled still lingering, new rumors swirl suggesting the shirts have arrived already and Jorge has been keeping them for almost a week. At the batting cage this past Sunday, this reporter heard rumors that Cometa has been wearing all the players' shirts and "pretending to be them" while prancing around in his house. Supposedly, he also wears them to bed. Apparently, his favorite to sleep with is the "Boom Boom" shirt.
- More on the shirts. Why are they white on royal blue - a la the New York Yankees? Is it a ploy by Cometa, a (Canadian) Yankee fan to subtly brainwash the Red Sox and Mets fans in the league?
- While steriods rumors are still swirling around Remetta and the Cadgians; one person has gone under the radar the whole season without suspicion despite gaining almost 15 pounds since the beginning of the season. Allegedly, said person takes in a "cocktail" of winstrol, sustanon, and stromber. The workout is murderous while the diet includes Pedialyte (more electrolytes and less sugar than sports drink) and Ensure (easily digestable energy packed meal in a can).
- "Poodles" Janik's single season home run record of 39 is in jeopardy as on the last day of the regular season, Nick Kaltsas already has 39 while Janik and Junior Cadigan are within striking distance.
- Of all the contenders for the Brent Remetta Award, "Boom Boom" Cooper has the lowest walk/inning ratio; showing that he has the best control. Why isn't his name mentioned more often in the Remetta Award talks? I know who this voter is voting for.
- This just in, the Wiffleboard members can be bought and bribed.
- Will "Top 8" Figueroa qualify for the playoffs?
- Is The Bear plotting a playoff Sunday return?
