BJB Memorial Tournament @ Foran: Part Two

So now we are 1-0 after just beating the Soggy Bottom Boys 9-1. That was Game 1 of our pool play and we don't play til Game 4 and Game 6. I wandered around, got some food, and began getting a big time sunburn on my face. I got back in time to see us play against the Boston Dirt Dogs. I asked the obvious, and no, they ain't the people that runs the Boston Dirt Dogs site. Here's a pic of them in the blue shirts with red trim. We beat them 5-1.

This is totally not related to our play, but there was this guy that kept taking pictures of us. So I shot back.

And then that guy that you saw from the News 12 video showed up. He was all over the G-Unit. That's why we got no face time.

I got tired of waiting around, so I started to scout for our league. The #5 on this team (not pictured) was all hard core and got mad and emotional on plays. He can't be more than 12 or 13 year old. The guy was intense. He could pitch a bit and has a good bat. I gave him our business card and said, "Kid, the Big Leagues is waiting when you are ready." I haven't heard from him yet. I figured we need a replacement for "El Gringo" since he's gonna be getting up there in age.

Here's more pics of us. I think we were playing G-Unit. It was a blowout win, 16-0. We kinda just messed around.

Hoggatt looking fierce.

And so we were done with pool play. We were given the #2 overall seed in the tournament with our 30-2 run differential. We got matched with Team College in the first round. We fell behind 7-0 in the top of the second inning but scored 4 at the bottom to be within 3. Then we got three more at the bottom of the 5th to tie it with only one out. I think we had two chances for a hit to win the game. But we couldn't pull through. Team College scored 6 in the 6th (bases loaded to start extra innings), and we only managed 2 at the bottom. We lost 9-13.

Although we lost this year, plans are already in place to field teams for next year's tournament. This year, we merely got our feet wet. Now that we know the rules and how the tourny is run, we'll be better prepared for next year. We look forward to fielding two, perhaps three teams with a cheerleaders and a complete set of coaches on the field. We will bring that trophy home next year.

thanks.
